U.S. Air Force ROTC (AES) Aerospace Studies
Program Description
This program is offered in conjunction with St. Louis University. The program description is taken directly from their catalog:
The Aerospace Studies program (AFROTC) is divided into two parts; The General Military Courses (GMC) is the freshman/sophomore level curriculum, and the Professional Officer Course (POC) is the junior/senior level curriculum. The GMC covers two main themes: The Air Force Today and The History of Aerospace. The courses of the POC emphasize the professional development of the future Air Force Officer. The curriculum covers Air Force Leadership and Management and Preparation for Active Duty.
Field trips to Air Force bases supplement classroom instructions and familiarize the cadet with Air Force operations and organizations.
In addition to the classroom time, each student must participate in a two-hour Leadership laboratory per week throughout the student’s enrollment in the AFROTC. Instruction is conducted within the framework of an organized cadet corps with a progression of experiences designed to develop each student’s leadership potential. The first two year of the leadership Laboratory includes a study of Air Force customs and courtesies, drill and ceremonies, issuing military commands, instructing, directing, and evaluation the preceding skills, studying the environment of an Air Force officer and learning about areas of opportunity available to commissioned officers. The last two years of Lab consist of activities classified as advanced leadership experiences. They involve the planning and controlling of military activities of the cadet corps, the preparation and presentation of briefings and the other oral and written communications as well as receiving guidance and information which will increase the understanding, motivation, and performance of other cadets.
Field Training (FT): All Cadets must be selected and must complete four weeks of Field Training during the summer between their sophomore and junior year.
Federal scholarships are available for AFROTC cadets. Any academic major may apply. For HS seniors, applications must be made online at the AFROTC.com website. For college students who are already enrolled in the AFROTC program, scholarships may be available for students who meet the academic and physical fitness requirements.
