Master of Arts

Working in concert with the School of Education, the School of American Studies offers a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in interpretation. This degree program provides students with advanced study in the field of interpretation. This highly specialized communication process is used in museums, open-air museums, historic sites, nature centers, art galleries, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, tourism, and eco-tourism. The education foundation of this degree, coupled with access to the University owned and operated resources of the Daniel Boone home and village, a national historic site, prepares graduates for positions in program development, management, planning, and curriculum design for interpretive sites. This is a highly competitive field, and this program is designed to prepare qualified candidates with a foundation in theory and hands-on application.

Admission to the master’s program requires no specific course prerequisites; however, a student must have received a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in order to be admitted.
