AHS 38600 Complementary and Alternative Medicine
This course provides an overview of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) health practices now being utilized by a growing number of health-care consumers who are seeking alternatives to traditional healthcare. Selected CAM therapies, practices, and their relationship to traditional Western medicine will be discussed. Students will review current trends in CAM, CAM research initiatives, and the healthcare consumer implications such as health insurance and scams related to CAM. Utilizing an interprofessional perspective, students will explore the mind-body basis for many CAM modalities and how to incorporate CAM into holistic healthcare to a culturally and ethically diverse healthcare patient population.
