BSC 23000 Microbiology for Health Sciences
This course examines microorganisms as they relate to human health and disease. Students will learn the cell structure, growth, and genetics of microorganisms in general, and the pathogenesis of specific microorganisms. The function of the immune system and the effectiveness of antibiotic agents will also be covered. Laboratory investigations will include safety, basic procedures, aseptic technique, isolation, growth and identification of microorganisms, and inquiry into the effect of antibiotics on growth of bacteria and the development of antibiotic resistance.
