CCJ 25000 Understanding Police Use of Force
This course will deal with a more in-depth understanding of police use of force. Many have opinions about whether force is justified in scenes publicized by the media. Unfortunately, many are not informed to make educated opinions about an incident. This course will allow students to debate viewable police use of force and determine if the actions by citizens warrant such force by police. Additionally, the course will provide students with the ability to think objectively about what they see without using any pre-conceived biases in their opinions. Students will furthermore see how police perceive use of force compared to citizens. Because public criticism frequently follow instances of alleged excessive force, which affects police citizen relationships, this course is structured for all and not only CCJ students who form opinions about the activities of their local police departments. There are no prerequisites for this course.
