PARA 20000 Foundations of Paramedicine

This introductory course will introduce students to the practice of paramedicine. Topics discussed include paramedic and emergency medical services (EMS) systems, research, workforce safety and wellness, EMS system communication, therapeutic communication techniques, medical/legal ethics, lifespan development, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, and principles of public health. This course, when taken with PARA 21000 and PARA 22000, meets the requirements to apply for registration with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and to apply for an EMT license in the State of Missouri.
