CINE 34700 Cult Cinema

This course will seek to define the term “cult” and explain how it is often applied to motion pictures and related media. Eminent (and infamous) works will be introduced and full-length features will be screened to familiarize students with accepted cult films that have made an impact on mainstream pop culture. The films examined will also highlight specific genres/sub- genres, auteurs, actors, and thematic content. Students will be challenged to explain why cult films endure culturally, despite their often questionable aesthetics, content, or perceived value.
