HS 20000 Introduction to the Caring Health and Wellness Professions

This non-clinical course introduces students to caring professions with primary focus on the nursing field. The course introduces students to professional caring roles and explores the identity, values, philosophy, standards, and challenges that define professional practice. Students are exposed to the history of and trends in professional nursing and related caring professions. This includes the various roles, methods, and philosophical basis for knowledge and skills acquisition; the role of critical thinking and application of evidence-based principles; beginning development of professional solid communication skills; information literacy; and the development and delivery of professional care.
