FRE 41400 French Autobiography

GE-Human Culture: Literature/Human Culture: Foreign Culture/Human Diversity [GE-CrsClt] This course will examine autobiography as a modern genre, slippery as that genre may be. We will examine the balance of reality and fiction within autobiography. Students will analyze the difficulties autobiographers encounter as they attempt to reconstruct the past and recreate their past selves through the text. Autobiographies studied may include those of Sartre, de Beauvoir, Sarraute, Duras, Ernaux, and others. Taught in French.
