EDU 34611 Math and Computer Science for Educators

This course is designed to teach the basics of math teaching including topics such as Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis, and Probability. Students will learn to evaluate, plan, deliver, and assess math and computer science lessons utilizing a student-centered, inquiry approach. Students will utilize computer science skills, such as basic coding, to learn strategies for teaching children to approach and persevere in problem solving, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and critique the reasonings of others, modeling with math, and communicating math thinking with others. Using computer science skills, educators have the opportunity to show students the purpose and relevance of math.
