HIST 36500 Jews in the Modern World
Few peoples have attracted as much interest, admiration, hate, and curiosity in the modern age as the Jews. A global diaspora, the Jews of the world have defined and expressed their Jewishness in myriad ways. In this course, you will explore historical transformations of Jewish life around the globe during the past three centuries. Reading a variety of sources, you will critically analyze major themes in global Jewish history such as migration, modernization, religious practices and reforms, and political movements and examine their manifestation in different cultural and political settings around the world.
